Dear Experts,

i am renovating my external doors (traditional wooden construction) and need to decide what sort of draughtproofing to fit.

I could fit something like this, externally:

This is almost what was there before. They have the advantages of being easy to fit (I guess) and can cover any gap between door and frame. But they are more conspicuous than the alternative, fitted to the jamb:

The problem with these strips is that I need to fill a gap that varies from nothing to about 7 mm. Can these strips really reliably fill a gap with that much variation?

I have a couple of other questions about these push-in strips:
- It's obvious how I fit it on the handle side of the door, but how to I position it on the hinge side?
- I can easily router a groove in most of the jamb, but how can I cut a groove up into the corner?
- Any idea where to buy short lengths? 100m is a bit excessive!

Or is there some other product that I should be considering?

Thanks, Phil.
