I want to replace old double glazing. I have seen a couple of showrooms and I noticed that at one of them the window was sliding better which I assume was because of better hinges. But when I was asking for quotes, it doesn't seem like there is an option to choose hinges. Is there a great variability in hinge quality (as in most other things in life) and if so am I just unlucky in the quotes I got that there wasn't an option to choose hinges ?

I bought new windows for the front of the house two years ago. I bought tilt and turn, but looking back, I wouldn't buy them again as they limit the type of blinds you can have, and if you want to open them inwards, you have to clear the window sill.

When you say 'sliding better' are you referring to vertical sliding sash windows or side opening casement windows?

Sounds to me like lack of maintenance and poorly adjusted ' friction ' at those showrooms that didn't work smoothly
Most hinges are of similiar quality in my opinion
