Christmas Cards

is it me or do you think Christmas Cards are a waste of money?

Look at it this way

You buy a "special card" average cost £1.50
you send / give the card
recipriant reads it
recipriant thinks "oh dear, i haven't got sender a card"
reciprant does same, spends £1.50 on a card sends to you.

12th day of Christmas what happens to card? it goes in the bin
(and that is only 1 card)

similarly for a box of "cheapo cards" you get them for your work colleagues keeping a few back for those who you forgot

would it not be a better idea to give the money spent on cards to Charity, and send all your friends an "e card" or short video clip of yourself / family wishing recipriant happy Christmas

funnily enough, i got a parcel from our uniform supplier, queen eleanor, last week, and it had a note in, saying "instead of sending xmas cards to all our customers, our staff decided to donate £250 to <some charity or other>"

this would also stop the card manufacturers from making so much money out of people at christmas.

however, recieving cards from companies just shows they are making too much money, but recieving cards from relatives and friends lets you know they are thinking of you at christmas. My mum doesn't throw cards in the bin, she keeps them all for next year and sends cards to people she got them from last year

it doesnt even feel like christmas. apart from queues everywhere you go and loads of lights outside wasting electricity (altho hopefully some charv's will die in the process or climbin the house to put them up).

to me its just another day. so far i have done absolutly no shopping and havent got any presents in (sister likes shoppin, i hate shoppin, so she does it. sorted.)

I personally do not agree with buying cards for xmas, birthday or valentines - you say the relevant greeting anyway. Must admit I have this year for the other half - first time in 3 years!

How many times have you heard "It's all just a conspiracy by the greetings card companys!" said about any commercialised or manufactured "holiday"?

I'm sure it's true. The greetings card companies are trying to make money, that's what businesses do!

Yet you never hear people say "air conditioned cars are a conspiracy by the companies who make pollen filters", or "shower pumps are all a conspiracy by the plumbers and the water companies so they all make more money".

What do people have against the greetings card companies? A greetings card isn't particularly useful to the purchaser, that's what.

Which is rather like buying a car that scores highly in the new "pedestrian safety" tests... All a conspiracy by ROSPA, I tells ya.
