Cistern Lid Problem - dodgy bathroom installation...

Its hard to tell from the pic, but has he piped it up with a flexi tap connector

Angle grinder, stone or diamond cutting disk (plus appropriate PPE), cut lid to fit ceiling/wall - job done.
 
Will look at getting the lid ground down.
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
However, as for the 'leaving cistern on the floor and not coming back' idea, that seemed to sum up the problem of someone doing the minimum, expecting to be paid before the job is finished and not taking pride in the work. We have a scruffy, unfinished bathroom as we had a lazy workman.
That bad attitude cost them a healthy bonus.

Had they finished the job when they said they would, then they'd have got a bonus (as in more money) for a job well done and on time.
