Cladding over exterior brickwork??

Is it possible (advisable?) to clad over existing exterior brickwork using treated battens and, for example, cedar shiplap?

If so, what else would need to be affixed (e.g. some form of membrane)

I suppose a frame ensuring a watertight seal?
