I’m worried about eventually driving my car over it which is positioned where the wheel will be stationary on it.
Are they generally ok abs quality?
Is it this one? https://www.wickes.co.uk/Clark-drain-5-Ton-Steel-Manhole-Cover+Frame---450-X-600mm/p/240730
Although it is called a 5 Ton cover it says in the detailed description:
So that's nice and clear!
- 5 Ton Gross Plated Weight Loading. Weight Rating Is Expressed As The Gross Weight Of The Vehicle With Tyres And Four Points Of Contact
- Not Suitable For Anything Heavier Than Pedestrian Traffic. Will Support A Slow Moving Wheel Load Of 1.25 Tonnes
Yes that is the one.
John there is a risk that my car when parked in the garage, my left front tyre (therefore the heavier engine load bearing weight) will either slowly go over it or park on top of it as it's the correct position where my car will eventually come to a stationary stop.
Not sure how I can argue for my money back given that it's been several months. Then again it's only £25 I lose rather than a damaged suspension.
Clarke make several different drain covers that all look the same from above. There is a PC6AG which is Pedestrian only and weighs 5.5kg and a PC6BG which can take 5 tonne Gross Plated Weight and weighs 6.5kg (there are other heavier ones). Wickes seem to have mixed together the specifications of more than one drain cover on their web site. Does your cover weigh 5.5kg or 6.5kg?
Yes. with all the minimum stresses they allow for in the steel, an allowance for someone driving at speed over it giving static and dynamic forces I would well imagine loading it with 2 tonne wouldn't make it disappear down the manhole. Please do an on site test and report back.Factor of 3?
