    .... started to sink in?

I didn't give it much thought, seeing a bloke driving a Transit van through the M5 roadwork , while wearing a paper half - mask.
Until the following day, when I saw another, and another.
    And again today, some more.

Personally, I don't blame them . The sheer amount of fine particulate shoite any motorist breathes in is terrifying (unfortunately, its the trade with the devil that some of us make, to pay the bills). Just wipe the inside of your windscreen with a white cloth, if you don't believe me.....

I was wondering the same. Not least as being worried about particulates in the air is a separate issue to climate change, which is largely about CO2 (or equivalents).

That you're breathing air which if it was inside a building and as polluted as that due to the processes carried out inside the building would see the company prosecuted.

How does rubbing a cloth on your windscreen prove anything about the chemical constituents on it?

It proves that, despite the fact that you can't see any clouds of smog, there is something in the air that you are breathing in. And that it is particulate in nature.

Likely to be soot from engines, and minute granules of rubber from tyre wear.

Fine enough particles will possibly pass through the alveoli and into the bloodstream.
Cardio-vascular disease, strokes, and similar may be made more likely by this.

    • This study showed that every 1‐μg/m3 increase of long‐term exposure to fine particulate matter ≤2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter was associated with a 36% increased risk of cardiovascular events among healthy participants with no history cardiovascular diseases who resided in Seoul, Korea.

    • The effects were consistent for all cardiovascular events including cardiovascular mortality, acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and stroke.

"Ella was first taken to hospital in 2010 after a coughing fit and subsequently admitted to hospital 27 times."

"An inquest in 2014, which focused on Ella's medical care, concluded her death was caused by acute respiratory failure and severe asthma.

But a 2018 report said it was likely unlawful levels of pollution, which were detected at a monitoring station one mile from Ella's home, contributed to her fatal asthma attack.

Ruling with two other judges that the 2014 conclusions should be quashed, Judge Mark Lucraft QC said: "In our judgment, the discovery of new evidence makes it necessary in the interests of justice that a fresh inquest be held."

He said Ella's family's lawyers had argued the new evidence demonstrated there was an "arguable failure" by the state to comply with its duties under the European Convention on Human Rights, which protects the right to life.

Ella may become the first person in the UK for whom air pollution is listed as the cause of death."

I blame it on those German brands that lied about diesel

  16. Why would you go outside of your car while you're driving it? How even?
