hi, any helpfull advice welcome please.
car ford escort. mk5 1.6 petrol injection. 1994.
ive just renewd the self adjusting clutch asembly it was doing its job ok but had to much side play on pedal so i thought i would get down there and put new bushes in etc. got the kit from fords. changed it all over
after i got my back stratened i tried it .worked the pedal up and down to settle it in.
now its got a bit of clutch but pedal bites about 2inches from floor.
and its hard to get into 1st . it seems as though its in gear till i go to pull away. from lights etc . also it hard changing into any gear, got drag on the stick.
doesnt grind when i try reverse with engine going .
oh, the cable is doing its job at the gearbox end.
what have i not done right or done wrong. ? help please. .regards. r.r.

You must have too much slack in the cable. Is there an adjuster?

hi, no slack in cable , that is also new.
there isnt an adjuster because siits supposed to be self adjusting . r.r
thanks for reply .

Not the easiest thing in the world to change
Can you feel the cable moving shortly after you apply pressure to the pedal? If not you have the paul in wrong and its slipping on the teeth of the ratchet mechanism (half a turn out)? Or its the wrong kit? If the cable moves shortly after pedal movement, the problem is the the clutch mechanism in the flywheel.

If it was working ok before you stripped it to do the bush, obviously its the parts you changed

Hope this helps

Hand brakes are usually meant to be self adjusting but the mechanism usually needs to be "helped"when trying to get a suitable angle on the handle prior to an MoT. You need to figure out how to manually adjust the automatic device.
