I have a good quantity of coarse sand left over from laying a flagstone path. Can I use it either instead of building sand for my mortar or as part of the sand mix? I am using it to lay concrete blocks and the look is of no consequence.

It will make using the mortar almost impossible, but if you want to use it then fill ya boots.
Don't expect a seasoned brickie to use it though particularly if he's on piecework.
