Hi,

We have 2 attic bedrooms in our house and they both are quite cold. We have invested in additional 50mm insulation, new velux blinds and this has only made a minor difference. When i took up the floor recently i noticed that under the floor there was a load of rockwool insulation between the timbers. My basic understanding is that this shouldn't be there as it is preventing the heat from downstairs rising up to the bedroom. Is that right? Would removing this help with the room temperature comfort? Many thanks

Not really, I doubt you would notice it. I imagine the temperature differential between the two rooms would be very small, probably 5 degrees or even less, so there wouldn't be any noticeable heat transfer at those values through plaster, floorboards and possibly a floor covering.

In any case, if it's an attic conversion, the rockwool may have been put there as part of a 30 minute fire resistant floor if required by the building regulations.
