Over the summer we laid some new insulation over the old in our attic. We also boarded part of the attic floor. Recently we've noticed mould on a few items stored in the attic. It's a semi detached house and the attic does have one of those ventilation bricks. Any idea what is causing the mould growth?

The loft is damp. This will be due to:

(1) Insufficient ventilation. You need a good gap at the eaves, not obstructed by the insulation, which should not be pushed right to the edge. If you are relying on air bricks there should be (depending on size) at least two on each side, so that there is a through current of air.

and

(2) Moisture getting into the loft. Unless you have leaks from the roof, which will probably show as water marks, it usually rises up from the house, through gaps and round the hatch. If you have a moist house (e.g. don't use extractor in bathroom, or leave damp washing or towels about) then there will be more moisture rising. If you have any rooms ventilating into the loft this is a terrible cause of damp.
