We are renovating a late 1940's ex army house with solid floors throughout.

We are tiling the kitchen floor but it's very cold, we're thinking of putting down some 10mm "ekoboard" which is basically extruded polystyrene in board form. Has anybody used this? Would it be OK to glue the ekoboard down then tile over it?

Thanks Moz,

can't run to underfloor heating as we are on a tight budget! Just wondering if putting down 10mm of insulation underneath the tiles will be of any benefit, since the concrete floor has no insulation in the construction (it was put down years ago)

Are you saying you've tiled the floor and have found it cold or you're wanting your kitchen tiled but it's cold? Do you wear slippers or do you walk around in bare feet? We have tiles throughout the ground floor and have a nice rug in front of each sofa - that's all we need. No insulation needed.

Thanks for the replies :)

We are putting in a new kitchen, the existing floor is a concrete slab, and we are going to tile it. We have costed the ekoboard and it works out to about £200 for 25 sq metres. What I was wondering was if there is any benefit in doing this - the concrete slab will suck heat away won't it? And the insulation should help ?

But I don't want to throw the cash away if it won't make the slightest bit of improvement :)
