Within my house we have 3 sets of windows that have mullions through to the external wall.

On the external side they stick out at 45 degree angles each side as is the norm. But inside they are flat, flush against the level of the window.

They have then been painted.

Inside during colder weather they are incredibly cold and cause not only the temperature to drop, but also a huge amount of condensation as the warmer air hits them.

Are there any solutions to this, or is it just a problem with mullion windows?

I have done work on many a mullion as these, the biggest problem is the paint. becasue the cold comes through, the interior of the house is warm and the condensation has nowhere to go. Are the mullions real stone or art-stone (reconstituted stone)?

Waterproofing the outside can help with a clear coat sealant, if water is actually getting through. Otherwise consider getting the paint off the interior. We did attach a thin foam based board (art board) to one job on the inside which helped (after watreproofing the outside 1st)
