Just taken a ceiling down in an old office and found lots of strange cour wires yellow green purple white etc etc anyone know if there i a certail colour for certain data telephone cables?

It will just depend on what the company decided on.
The colour can sometimes denote the sheath type such as standard PVC or low smoke and fume (LSF) etc

Cat5e is available in many different colours, if different colours are present then they probably meant something to the guy who installed them... perhaps different colours for different offices, a different colour for access points or phones, one colour for original points, one for extra ones, etc, there is no fixed standard
