Combi boiler, cant get hot water while heating is on + other

Hi,

When I have the heating on I cannot get hot water. I have to turn the heating off and most times turn the boiler off a couple of times or leave for a very long time. Also when the heating is on, most of the time it heats to more than set on the thermostat. It seems to heat up to the thermostat temperature but then it stays in a sort of idle mode which still heats the radiators and puts the temperature up to about 26.

I would be grateful for any ideas.

what boiler ya got? sound like ya diverter valve is stuck in the heating position

It is an Ideal Isar HE30.

I understand you saying it is something sticking but it doesnt always stay on sometimes its fine and othertimes it just wont stop.

yep that sounds like something sticking to me
your boiler as a pre heat which will run until the boiler is at a set temp regardless of weather ya got heating on. if it is sticking it can allow the heat to pass into the heating circuit and warm the rads up wen its not set to be on and can also affect hot water temp.

Ok thanks, any ideas how i can sort it? Can I tinker with it or will I need to replace something?

id just replace it, you would have to check which diverter valve you have (they are 2 different types) both are easy to replace but cost around a £100 from memory
