Hi guys,
Really hoping someone can give me some advice and that this is something I can do myself as I'd really like to avoid a plumber this week as so much to do and the cost etc... I don't know a lot about combi boilers as this is the first house I've lived in which has one - sorry if I'm being thick here!
Right - I have a Sime 80E, last serviced about a month ago, which is causing me problems.
1. First of all, the mixer shower (so hot water from the combi boiler, cold water from the mains as far as I know) in my bathroom (upstairs, boiler is downstairs) has, for the last week or so, been basically doing the "thermonuclear or freezing" routine - ice-cold water on all the settings except the hottest one, which gives water too hot to use. I discovered last night that if I use it when the heating is on, it works fine. When it's on but on one of the settings that gives ice-cold water, the boiler doesn't come on - it's like it's failing to pull hot water/tell the boiler to come on - but it's fine if the boiler is on for the central heating - it gives water at a decent temperature.
2. I noticed when I came home from work today that the hot tap in the kitchen is only delivering luke-warm water after running 5-10 mins. The boiler DOES fire for this tap (and all other hot taps in the house, all with the same issue it seems) but the water just isn't very warm. Granted the water coming into the house must be v v cold but surely the boiler should be able to heat it?! If I turn the heating on, the water is hotter but not as hot as it used to be - you could have a bath in it without having to add any cold, put it like that!
Any suggestions anyone, other than "call a plumber"?!
Thanks very much!!!
rich
PS: The heating side of things is working perfectly and the system is maintaining pressure etc.
