Hello all - I have a Biasi Prisma 24SE combi boiler with a traditional timer dial - i.e. one where you press out the little notches to set the time for the heating/hot water to come on, etc.

Basically, the timer is getting seriously temperamental and keeps stopping. We've had an engineer come out to look at it twice, however, he can't find any serious faults and can get it going by fiddling with it. It has, however, stopped again and I'm not 100% confident in this guy's ability to fix it properly (even though he said he wouldn't charge for the next call out)! I was therefore wondering whether anyone has any ideas on what might be the problem and how it can be fixed?

Thanks a lot!

I cannot understand why your engineer hasn't just replaced the timer instead of just 'fiddling with it'

Replace the timer and stop get messed about ;)

yes, i did wonder that myself obviously....

how much is a new timer do you reckon?

If you google it you should get some good prices from internet suppliers ;)

Further to this, we now have a more significant problem - i.e. every time we try to switch the boiler on the "red light" comes on and even after resetting it fails to get going. This obviously therefore means no heating or hot water. Great.

We've ditched the joker who came last time and have got someone else lined up to come in but meanwhile I wanted to know what this all might end up costing me - i.e. is it possible that the boiler's completely screwed?!

cheers

Need more detail on what happens before the light comes one. Does the boiler actually kick in? can you hear stuff working, can you see the boiler sparking etc

Yes, the boiler is trying to get going and you can see it sparking through the viewing window but the pilot light fails to light up...

Where in London are you? - One of the regulars here is a Biasi specialist..

Could it be possible that you have dislodged a wire or terminal block to the gas valve whilst replacing the timer?

thanks chaps - we've actually got it sorted now - it was a valve that had gone...

think i'm going to get that british gas homecare cover going forward!

Contact Domestic and General they do offer boiler cover usually much cheaper than B.Gas. There`s a lot of money to be made in geting people on a service contract so shop around various insurance companies and you might strike lucky.
