Combined fan and spotlight for bathrooms

Are there any general thoughts on these as to whether its better to get a separate fan and spotlight or combine them in one big slightly ugly package.

it's a matter of opinion.

Personally i like the combo light fan if it is to be position3ed in (say) a shower cubicle. You then get steam extarct and light just where you need it and you do not have to worry about Zones, IP44 protection, jets of water etc etc.

You will get some contributors suggesting that spotlights in a bathroom is not the best way of lighting up your face......

whats the alternative? pendant light in the middle of the room?

Nothing wrong with combined light and fan units, provided you realise their limitations:
1. Typically they will be limited to 35w for the lamp to avoid overheating
2. They must be installed so that the light can only be on when the fan is running (the airflow is used for cooling)
3. Rather obviously, the fan must be located in the same place as one of the lights. Depending on the layout of the room, this may/may not be what you want.

The alternative is separate light(s) and a plain grille in the ceiling for the fan.
As for lighting alternatives, there are vast numbers of lights which can be used in bathrooms.
