Combustion box seal

I have a Baxi Barcelona condensing boiler, about 4 years old. It started making quite a loud explosive bang when it ignited and this turned out to be the combustion box door seal which had perished in places.

The engineer replaced it a month ago with some new (similar looking) strip all round. Its like thick spongy tape - it doesn't look anything special.

Its now perished again. I think what happens is that if there is the slightest leak, hot gas passes through which melts the seal making a bigger gap which passes more hot gas etc etc. I'm sure this seal needs to be heat resistant.

Is there a readily available seal for this type of application or must I send off to Baxi?

There is a PTFE spongy tape available from RS Components, and probably other places. I hope gas boys will say if there's a problem with this.

What material is the original tape? It's surprising it should fail so quickly. It might be worth asking Baxi if they know of a similar problem.

Get the proper BAXI seal from HRPC and others.

The use of alternatives can prove tricky in law - regarding the effective modification of a gas appliance.
