Hi, I have a question in regards to a boiler service that on checking the CO/CO2 ratios found that they were in the region of 4.5 !!! This was after the boiler was cleaned inside.

It was mentioned that the fan could be the problem.

The boiler in question is a Potterton Suprima 80HE, I just wanted to know if this was the likely source of the problem as not being a gas engineer it is a bit above me.

The boiler was marked A/R is currently off until the engineer returns with a new fan.

I was holding the ladder at the time, so was unable to see the actual reading but was certain that is right. The engineer did seem a little confused by this figure so I hope he knows what he is doing.

There questions are best asked and answered in the CC part of this site for registered engineers.

That figure does not fit within normal expectations by a factor of about 1000 !

Are you sure he purged his FGA in outside fresh air Rusty?? Was this chap a fully experienced time-served Tradesman, as there's lots of short term course cowboys about the Gas Industry.

Potterton suprima HE then looking around 5% CO2/40ppm CO/0.0008 CO/CO2 ratio.

I shall hopefully have some answers tomorrow as I have booked an engineer who I have used before and know he is properly certified.

Engineer arrived and cleaned boiler properly, measured flue levels and found they were only slightly out and corrected with a small adjustment. Just goes to show, not all engineers are created equal.

All engineers should by now have done a simple assessment in the use of a gas analyser.

But that does not cover what the readings mean.

Many dont really understand the readings they obtain. Thats not surprising as some chemistry and maths understanding is required but people can get gas reg without even a single GCSE.
