Hello

I know ive asked this question before i didnt really get the answer i was looking for, so hope you can help :)

Just wanted to know if you were doing an extension on the back of a house, single story, what height would you put the roof?

1. Im using 49ers, minimum pitch is 17.5 so do i pitch the roof at 17.5 or higher?

2. If there is no window sill above, what pitch would i do?

many thanks.

Pitching at 30 degrees means that you will be able to use most roof tiles except plains.

It also means that the roof won't be overly shallow or 'in-your-face' steep.

If you wanted to use plains then go for 35 degrees or steeper.

If you decide to mimic the existing roof pitch then you can be assured that the soffit/eaves detail can be made to look similar to the existing dwelling, i.e. the amount it protrudes from the building and fascia depth etc. Provided the timbers sections are similar, of course.

If the extension comes out more than 3 - 3.5m from the rear wall, a roof of 30 deg plus pitch might look overbearing.
