This again!! Right Dickie once and for all the definitive answer is yes you should use Boss white or joining compound but in conjunction with PTFE.
A quick how to guide. Maybe get it as a sticky!
Start by placing olive (the metal ring not the wife!!) and nut on the pipe.

Apply a liberal coating of Boss white on the pipe and olive like so,

Wrap pipe, olive and threads with PTFE and then finish with a light compound glaze over the top

Tighten nut as much as possible usually 2-3 good grunts on a set of 18" Stilsons should suffice.

Job Done. This is how us proper engineers do it. Those that argue otherwise really don't know what they are doing.
Sit back and enjoy a relaxing cuppa listening to the relaxing sound of running water.
Hope this helps Dickie![]()
Amazing!! Oh thanks for that. Now, when it's pizzing out all over the place; do I call out a time served fully qualified Plumber to fix it & hide down the Pub - just incase he starts laughing at me??? Or, do I blame the wife??
That jon is a thing of beauty.
Look you plumbers, take a tip from the electrians ( shocking idea I know ).
After making the joint cover it with heat shrunk sleeving.........Red or brown for hot water, blue or black for cold water and green/yellow for what on earth is this pipe

If it does leak you just need a bigger set of Stilsons. Try hanging off a set of 24's and that should cure it. Alternatively there is something called LSX try smearing copious amounts of this over the joint.
