PTFE on a compression fitting? Very wrong. A light smear of LSX. I mean a light smear.
Scott.
Im confused now because this is such a grey area Ill be honest if always used PTFE tape on compression because thats what our lecturer told us at college and ive never had any problems but if I can get away without using it then I will

This debate pops up every so often, everyone has their own way. Personally I never use any jointing compound or PTFE on new compression joints, never needed it. Never has one leaked and I'll keep it that way too. As do other people I only use PTFE on old knackered bits of pipe or redoing up an old compression which is weeping. Use the thicker Gas PTFE too.
