I have a Canon BJC-4300 printer which has stood idle for some time. It will not now print, I tried doing the clean test and eventually asked my computer know how neighbour for any help he could give. I said I needed to clean the print head as it had become clogged up with dry ink, dust etc. But he didn't offer any help as to how to do this. Do I need to take it to a specialist, can I do it myself or do I chuck the lot in the bin? thanks

price of printers, chuck it it in the bin. had one printer (forgot what it was) but you could change whole print head, but price was too close to new printer

always note what goes where before you do anything
ie. Printer goes.. er.. in the bin :)
You may just try a Deep Clean" before you bin it. See Here I doubt it will work, but could be worth a try.

Yes, it's sad that these days, it's almost cheaper to replace the whole printer once the ink cartridges run out!

Isopropyl alcohol is useful, if you can get hold of some !! Soak the delivery area of print head in this.

that may be a good idea (I am not saying it isn't) but you have to find and get Isopropyl alcohol then you have to put the head in it, or wipe the head with it, as also mentioned it is a shame, but with the price of printers...........

Don't know if same fluid, but that which is supplied with floppy drive cleaning kit did the job !! Albeit on dried HP cartridges !

The product you want is a new print head/cartridge pack, found HERE They can vary in price between £15 & £35 complete with ink.

You could soak/clean the head, but it will never produce the same results.

I always use ethanol, 'cos when the job your doing doesn't work, you can drink the remaining ethanol by way of compensation !
