Hydrochloric acid is good.
You can purchase Brick cleaner from most merchants which contains this acid in a diluted form.

.....which will also etch the concrete a little and attract even more unwanted crud.

So what do you suggest ?.

High pressure cleaning will remove everything anyway and the strip the concrete of the wall also if you wish and leave the concrete open to attack by mildew and spore growth.
I find I have to clean my concrete and walls yearly with a high pressure power washer which is no big deal anyway.

Hydrochloric acid (brick cleaner) is not the best thing for mould - it will eat the cement away, thus forming more pores for mould to grow in, and lets the surface wear quicker.

You can buy a fungicidal wash for about £5 for 2.5 liltres and this will just kill the mould with no scrubbing or attacking the concrete.

The problem with jet washing, is the more you do it, the more you have to do it and more freaquently too.

If it is a persistant problem, then the best thing to do it treat and clean it, and then coat the surface with a resin sealant which will then not let mould grow for a good few years

Hydrochloric acid has no adverse effects on cement or concrete.

i think someone here is confusing hydrochloric acid with water.

why do you think it is used for cleaning patios and brickwork and also for etching concrete.

Armillotox should do the job. Available from most garden centres.

Just spray it on, and leave it for a day or two.

Pressure washer would not be necessary.

It is vital that people on sites and at home, especially for DIY use, clean concrete off safely. This means avoid using acid-based substances that are harmful to you, damaging to your equipment or surface and a danger to the environment.

Here are some reasons why you shouldn't use hydrochloric acid as a cleaning agent...

Duzz removes concrete build-up from all types of construction equipment: vehicles, handling, finishing, and even your most sensitive components. The magic lies in the unique pH formula, meaning you can use it safely onsite without damaging your equipment. Use on any surface: paintwork, all metals, plastics, paving slabs, bricks, and other common building materials including glass, and cement base materials.
