hi all, im going to be cutting a hole in my kitchen wall to fit a window and wondering if the concrete lintels that wickes sell are ok to use on inside and external of the wall ?? not sure if there just for internal or not... or would a cavity steel lintel be better? its a 1960's extension so not sure what size the cavity would be ....

Shouldn't be a problem using a standard Wickes lintel. Just make sure they are strong enough to take the load. Don't forget any floor loads that might be within the load triangle

It's more work to retrofit a Catnic type lintel, although they are a lot lighter to lift into place. Easy enough to work out the size of the cavity...just measure the reveals, and subtract the thickness of the masonry and any plaster or render.

As long a aesthetics aren't your thing, then yes a nice rough, grey, concrete lintel will do fine

You will also need to think about a cavity tray if you don't want the possibility a lot of rain water coming in

An IG lintel (inverted T shape) may be better
