Hi there, where we have concrete meeting timber floors, what's the best way to get the different levels to meet? The concrete is a bit lower than the timber but the timber isn't exactly level when you put a spirit level on it. So self levelling screed won't set flat to the timber will it? I need to get it flat so we can put a hardwood (engineered) floor down.

Many thanks.

When you have two different types of underfloor (in your case concrete and timber) it is always best to create one type of underfloor.
Use different sizes of plywood to level everything out and create one type of underfloor in one go.

hi there, we have all the right damp proof membrane and underlay, the concrete undulates so levelling would be difficult with ply.

Question:
the area you want to install wooden floors in consists of two different underfloors types? One concrete and one timber?
Between the concrete, the suitable underlayment for concrete and your wood floor will be a different 'climate' than between the timber underfloor, the suitable underlayment for timber and your wood floor. Hence the advice to create one type of underfloor for all.

Many thanks for your advice, surely if the damp proof membrane and underlay boards are laid correctly the climate underneath should have no affect? We are also using engineered boards which should be more stable than solid wood.....

Yes we know wood-engineered are more stable, but this approach of creating one type of underfloor is still the best approach to prevent any future problems.
But you're the 'client' ;)
