I need to create a gravel driveway on an area of scrap land, that has some very shallow private sewers.

170mm from crown to ground level (At shallow end). 4" salt glazed. About 6m length.

How am I best to concrete these in:

- Can I concrete directly around the pipes, or should they be sheathed in something for movement?
- What mix would be best for this?
- Is concreting 100mm to each side and above enough for the weight of cars?
- Do I need to dig underneath them too, or just the sides and top to protect them?

Or if I am way off course, please let me know.

First port of call was Paving Expert, but I couldn't find the answer.

All advice much appreciated !

Either, bed a thick 2' x 2' slab over them, cap them with 100mm of concrete (top and sides) or replace them with plastic and surround with pea gravel.

I thought plastic at shallow depth also needed concrete surrounding it? Unfortunately there are a couple of branches so I’d need a few clay to plastic adapters, would probably end up as a bit faff.

Didn’t know paving slabs over could be a solution, though

It’s about spreading the weight. Slabs is ok as long as you can get material above and below them.
Concrete cap it is.
