Conecting an outdoor socket.

run the cable behind some boxing I will have installed.
Are you aware of the rules on concealed cables?

All I really need to know is that IF I spur off the back of a ring main socket. Extend the 2.5mm T&E cable 1.5m through an exterior wall into the exterior socket with built in RCD, will I die, or will my house blow up?
You also need to know (you may do already, but JIC) that this work is notifiable...

Hi, thaks for the info. Consealed cables is not a problem as I will run directly backwards from an existing socket into another room and run it along the wall through a hole to outside. The cable will be covered with boxing as there are some rad pipes there aswell.

Yes I agree with notification. what does this mean in reality. Do I just have to make the local Building Control aware. How much interest do they take in a small job like this?

You have to officially notify them, not just "make them aware". This means submitting a Building Notice, with payment of their fee (their charges will be on their website), together with details of how you intend to comply with the requirements of the Building Regulations. They should then inspect and test your work to confirm compliance and issue a completion certificate. All that is what their fee is for.

In reality how much do they care, and what is likely to happen now, and whenever you sell the house in the future if you don't notify - probably "not much", but that's a decision which is entirely your responsibility....
