Can anyone advise what fitting I will need to connect my new alkathene water main to a stop tap please? Do the likes of b and q sell a special type of fitting?

yes you can get fittings to convert from poly to copper.

Get a poly stop valve, there better than the brass ones for alkathene pipe

Cheers will get one today. Poly coming in copper going out I guess?

"Philmac" if they sell them, the copper adapter fits in the end.

Don't forget the insert for the poly.

Cheers just got back from b and q. Had to get a 25mm to 22mm straight joint, piece off 22m plastic pipe, 22mm to 15mm straight joint, piece of 15mm copper pipe, then a 15mm stop tap (plastic) as they dont stock anything that can take 25mm alkathene down to 15mm in one go. Dunno why....

Go to a plumbers merchants next time (not on a Sunday though).

You could have bought an alkathene adapter (17 to 15) and attached 15 mm copper pipe to your new stoptap and saved some dosh.

Never mind, the job is done. :D

where would he fit the 17mm ? he does not mention 17mm (i appreciate the is 17mm about, but seems not here !)

Cheers, job done now. Worst bit was digging the trench for the alkathene!! Off for a couple of stellas....

Alkathene external diameter is approx 17mm :D

Sorry

Should be approx 17 mm diameter. I had to replace my stoptap a couple of yrs ago which was a manipulative comp fitting. My pipe was the old 3/8 bore black alkathene which from memory was 17 mm. Didn't know they did larger sizes in alkathene. :D

Is the new supply pipes not blue 25 mm and made of polyethylene and not alkathene?

Have to admit bahco I had assumed by new he meant the new 25mm blue poly and not the old class D or C alkathene.

the old 1/2" class D would be as you say about 17mm, although they did make larger sizes, 3/4".

it is 25mm plastic which I may have mistakelnly referred to as alkathene.
