Is it ok to connect a SWA gland straight onto a plastic WP Light Sw? I know you normally have to connect into galv box then take cables from this to whereva they need to go, but a galv box is not WP and would be dangerous outside in wet weather. Any suggestion swelcome

If it is a masterseal switch you will be ok to gland straight into it. Make sure the armour is earthed, and you will need to use the monacle if you are relying on it as the CPC.

you need waterproof SWA glands obviously, and a seal between the gland and the box, something like a fibre washer etc..

But you can gland stright onto the plastic pond pump though yeah? Its just from what ive read on hear before you always have to gland to galv box 1st but obviously this would be dangerous when outside

nothing wrong with it at all, we do it all the time with plastic isolators etc..

as long as the box itself is sturdy enought to take it then it's fine..

as stated, if you are relying on the armor as the earth then you need to use the "banjo" that comes with the glands to provide an earth, but since the pump has a plastic terminal box it may be double insulated.. ( can't tell, your link doesn't work.. )

the reason that people recommend using galv boxes is when it's used to try to terminate into a plastic consumer unit which usually have a removable cover leaving just a skeleton on the wall with no sides to fix a gland to..

Does pond pump switch have to be rcd protected from inside house? Or can it be rcdprotected in WP RCD just below it outside? In other words does SWA have to be RCd protected or can it be terminated into an WP RCD that supplies load?

Sod the fibre washer, and gland into the bottom of the switch - not the side or top. Drill out the drain hole in the back box too.

If the swa is earthed at the other end, dont bother using a banjo (frying pan, monicle etc) on the gland.

Underground SWA does not need RCD protection.

With the cost of waterproof kit though it usually pays to have as little kit as possible outside.

"pond pumps" come complete with cable, sorry just want to put the record strait

ah, but the idea is to be able to switch your fountain, filter pump and UV and lights on and off when you want.

BUT a uv and filter pump should be lft running 24/7

waste of time really, not to mention very small
