Connecting washing machine waste under sink

Yes I know it’s been like that since so moved here I don’t know how to fix it or what part I need, but do you think my washing machine is ok for now or will the water back flow into the machine?
The purpose of the loop is to prevent sink water running into the appliance. The top of the loop has to bring the hose higher than the water level in the sink when you pull the plug out. This can be done by passing the hose through a hole in the side of the sink unit right up at the top, or by fixing the hose to the worktop with a bit of string and a cuphook.

Probably.

It wouldn't hurt to make the hole a wee bit higher, right up against the draining board, if you ever need to do it again.

Thanks , do you know why the installer added that black rubber part connecting to the spigot?

I’ve altered it now the hose is above the actual washing machine, have I made it worse?

No, better.

Though in your pic the sink overflow appears to be unconnected to drain.
Why isn’t it better? I done exactly what you told me by making the drainage hose higher just like you said.

"No, (it is) better"
oh sorry and thanks for the help it’s much appreciated so it’s definitely ok for the hose to be higher than the actual washing machine? Oh and I don’t know how to attach the overflow to anything and my landlord just ignores me.

Sinks usually are delivered with an overflow connection, it looks like yours has a bit missing.

I think I can see another spigot out of sight towards the back, perhaps you could use that.

Take away the jug and take a couple of wider pics to show all the pipes and connectors, somebody may know what's happened.

Ok thanks I’ll do that soon,so the hose isn’t too high up then being higher than the washing machine?
