I'm currently having the building work done for a conservatory.

I have a local friend doing the building work and another company is supplying and fitting the conservatory.

Today I asked the conservatory company whether it's a problem putting the screed down after the roof had been fitted as I'm integrating UFH into the screed. He asked about base construction and I told him that the base was going to be mot hardcore, sand, 750mm Kingspan, Ufh, screed. He said it needs a 100mm concrete slab aswell.

I've spoken to my builder, and he seems pretty adamant the way he plans on doing it is more than adequate.

I would appreciate some advice, thanks in advance.

Tell the builder to do one and insist on a 100mm slab.

I think he is going to have to do that, and to be fair to him he has said if that's what I and the conservatory company want he will just do it with no extra charge.

He seems to think that a thick layer of hardcore is better than a slab. But I have done a search on the Internet and every 'guide' to building conservatory bases has a 100mm slab.

Is it often done, or a complete bodge?

Thanks for the advice it is a massive help having people in the know to reference :)

Definitely 100mm concrete slab, although you could lose a few mm off the 750mm Kingspan.
