I am moving my consumer unit further away from the meter, it is currently feed by 10mm twin and earth. is this old spec? should i change the 10mm to double insulated 16mm (85amp) cable?

Please descibe your mains installation properly and accurately. It'll make any comments made more accurate, also how far do you plan to move the CU from the meter?

Nath, Your consumer unit must be fed via 25mm double insulated cable from the electric meter, depending on the earthing system you have ( Rod or earth wire into the main suppliers box), you will have to upgrade to either 10mm or 16mm. If you move your consumer unit more than three metres away from your meter then you must install a Switch Fuse, generally rated at 80 amp.

Recs, that is a generic comment which does not reflect the situation at hand.

Not all tails need be 25mm, it is simply dependant on the supply required.
