Does anybody here know whats going on with the analogue switch-off?
It looks like what's happening now (relatively recently) is that an analogue service is being generated at the cabinet, and made available to customers over the "last mile" copper.
So even if there's nothing but fibre between the exchange and the cabinet, people's analogue phones still plug into their existing phone socket(s), not their broadband modem, and still work. The service has the VoIP tell-tale of always having to use the dialling code even for local numbers.
This is semi-educated (at best) guesswork, but it would be nice to know.
