Hi all

can someone please explain to me why it is essential to verify the continuity og the cpc (R2) before carrying out an impedance test on a socket outlet install.

Many thanks

To carry out a Zs test the circuit needs to be live. Would you want to do that without first verifying you have an adequate cpc in place?

If continuity of CPC is not in place,
You can't complete all your dead tests, which should be completed prior to testing live.

Also there is a possibility of your tester making any connected exposed conductive parts live to mains potential.
Thankfully most modern testers will cut out or wont let you start the test unless there is an earth present.
Pedantically - we don't tend to verify R2 on its own. We tend to verify R1+R2 together, but there is nothing stopping you doing the wander lead method to verify R2 on its own.

thanks for the replies, its easier to understand when a spark explains stuff to you rather than a lecturer reading str8 out of a book!

So your lecturer now has no idea that you aren't learning effectively in class.

Does he also not know that you can't write properly?

guess you have never used a mobile phone to txt in short hand b4 hav u, lol, what a TFI

 I think I know what TFI means

Thing is, we write in English- It's our language. When you read books, papers, film subtitles, IEE 17th ed et all they are not written in txt language.

As a point of etiquette, text language is considered poor form when asking and expecting clear answers in the written form.

More so when you are typing on a qwerty keyboard

TFI = Total f%^cking idiot

Of all the intuitive leaps that people make on this forum, that's one of the most ridiculous and disrespec'ful ones.

Learning is a two way process. Lecturers who make it one way are not doing their work properly.

Feedback about the uptake by students is essential during the lecture if the lecture is to be effective in educating the students.

Some lecturers are hopeless at this recognition of feedback, they speak the words as they have done so many times before but have no idea if they are talking to a class of attentive students or a brick wall.

So the lecturer tells him things in class, he doesn't understand, and doesn't ask the lecturer to explain it another way, instead he comes here and gets someone to explain it.

He returns to class with that understanding.

How, exactly, is the lecturer supposed to realise that he did not impart that understanding?
