Convert a water rad to an oil rad...

Hi,

Here's the plan, though there might not be a solution...

My parents, who live in France have central heating, but as it's sort of hot in the summer, they would like to have a mains powered towel radiator in the bathroom... I know you can buy them as the local Brico has them, but the house they brought has a very nice central heating fed towel rail. So the ideal solution is remove it from the system and then (and this is the 'good' bit) plug something in and probably fill it with oil and then plug it into the mains... is this possible?

The only problem I can see is that you may need to allow for the expansion of the oil when it heats up. I remember blowing an oil filled rad up by hoying it on a bonfire when I was a kid. It shot a good 20 foot up in the air. Unfortunately I dont know whether there was any provision for expansion in there and unless you can find out I would advise that you just buy one.

As it in France it probably has the CH water flow at the bottom and the return at the top on the other side.

So it probably has a connection blanked at one side of the bottom.
You can (in UK anyway) buy an electric element that fits in here.

That way you will not lose the ability to run it on the CH boiler during winter.

No need to fill it with oil anyway. Water plus inhibitor will be OK.

Had same problem last year at the Outlaws....


Took out an eliment and towel rad from uk..... fitted and working sweet.... foget about the oil option....

Brico`s in France are great places..... Utter caos....lol...
