Hi,

I'm looking to convert my shed so I can start up a business from home. The business will involve some food preparation so I will be installing cold water supply and also installing a ring main to provide power.
I've done a multi-skilled apprenticeship which involved electrical and mechanical engineering so I am reasonably competent and confident when carrying out plumbing and electrical jobs.
I was wondering, is there certain reg's that have to be adhered to for the converting of the shed and also, do I need a part p qualified electrician to certify the electrical work? I think this is the case in England but not sure if this applies to scotland.
Any help and advice much appreciated.
Thanks,

planning permission may be required from your la to convert your shed to operate and run a business from.

environmental health may have an interest in your project regarding the preparation of food.

running water mains for business use normally require a metered supply from the water board.

new electrical instalations would normally be covered under building warrant and signed off by a competent person.

a call to your local authority would be your best plan.
