converting wav to mp3

I

imamartian

any suggestions as to the best way?

I've downloaded one of those 'free' converters, but it just installs itself all over your pc, says, it's run out of 'free' converts, and then appears to have converted nothing !!!

Thanks.

I use Switch, it is a trial, and when it's up, it continues to work anyway.

Format Factory works well too.

I then use TagScanner to label.

All free.

I use WinFF, keeps trhe original file info, and converts video etc too.

or anothe roption, Realplayer, the free version includes a media converter (quite a good one actually, plenty of scope for adjucting the output bitrate etc.)

Can't go wrong with one of the best - and it's free...

CDex

Audacity, also free from sourceforge, with the Lame addition will do all you need and is an excellent recorder.

Audacity is also what I use. As said it uses Lame anyway. But it is not really designed to convert. The same with Sonic Stage I know it produces MP3 format but not really designed to convert.

Exact Audio Copy is worth a look. It's another Lame front end, but one that concentrates on getting the very best conversion using techniques such as multi-reading and Accurate Rip.
