Hi All,

I am planning to install a new oven and microwave on the same cooker circuit.

The diagram would be like this:

32A MCB -----> 6mm2 cable -----> Cooker switch -----> 6mm2 cable ----> double socket.

The oven wattage is 3.5kW and the microwave 3.3kW.

Is that a possible (and compliant) setup?

Thanks.

Hi ban-all-sheds,

Thanks for your reply.

It would be an existing circuit. Sorry if I am being daft but why can't I plug those appliances in?

They draw too much current. Each one is more than a plug can cope with and together they are more than 1 socket can cope with.

They'll need to be hard-wired, which will probably mean replacing the flex attached to them (if they have any). What do the manufacturer's instructions say about the size of cable they will accommodate, and what the circuit should be fused at?

According to this document: http://www.aeg-electrolux.co.uk/Files/united_kingdom_english/Brochures/AEG BI Brochure1 part 2.pdf

Oven: B9820-5-M has a 16A fuse rating
MW: MCD3880EM has a 15A fuse rating
Each being more than 13A, which is the maximum you can put in a plug, and less than the 32A your cooker circuit is fused at.

In their country of birth (Germany) sockets and circuits are rated at 16A - look at the main document and you'll see that's the cut-off above which are 30A hobs etc.

Over there you can just plug them in, over here you can't.

On this manual for the MW (http://www.serviceforce.co.uk/pdfs/U34375.pdf), it says:
The oven is equipped with a power cable and a plug for single phase current.
They are so taking the p***.

Have you got the items yet? If so, did they come with UK plugs attached?

You need a 16A circuit for each appliance.

Email them, and ask them if they can confirm that the items come fitted with a UK plug. If they say yes, ask them about the fact that they draw more than 13A, if they say no ask them why the manual says they do.
