I have installed a Baumatic cooker hood in accordance with maufacturers instructions but when I switch on there is a crackling sound coming from the 3amp fused connector unit.

I also had a mains powered radio on in the next room at the time and the sound went right down when I switched the hood on and back to normal when the hood was off !!!

If I move the hood away from the FCU the problem is much less but still there. Is it the wiring or the hood at fault here.

Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a loose connection in the FCU. Check all connections are tight, and that there is no insulation nipped under the terminal screws.

Loose connections can rapidly overheat and cause damage to cables and fittings, even at very modest loads.
