Copper Sulfide on Earth Wire

Thanks again for the replies.

I am sure about the multimeter setting 200k. It was something I noticed and was not doing any specific tests.

I have disconnected all appliances and sockets and traced all the wiring to their coressponding sockets. I am 100% sure I have not missed anything.

I totally agree that the other cables in the wall and under the floor may also be damaged by water and or corrosion which is why I thought replacing that section in trunking would be safer. Condeming the unknown seemed like the obvious decision.

Naturally, I would like to remove the damaged cable to see what exactly is the problem but once its all isolated from the ring main I feel happier.

I'm not doubting that. What I said is that if the meter is on its 200kΩ range, then a reading of "95.2" would normally mean 95.2 kilohms (kΩ), not 95.2 ohms (which is what you said/wrote).

Kind Regards, John

My apology JohnW2, I only bought a Multimeter to check my car battery and continuity. I totally understand what you mean now as I was being non specific which is not very helpful.

Long days

Sorry.
