Just bought a Bosch oven to replace old slot in Indesit model. Removed old one and was left with a cable with Brown, blue & yellow/green connectors. Bosch oven has Black, 4 blue wires leading into one connector and a yellow/green wire which is only accessible if I remove the back panel of the oven (approx 10 screws) Why is the earth hidden away, Do i connect brown to black, blue to blue and remove back panel to hook up the earth which has the six star stud screw fixing it on???

One further question. My old oven was 2200 w and new one is 3.6kw is this a problem with old wiring?? The cable is 6mm.

Bought the item from a warehouse in Northampton who specialise in ex-demo and damaged goods. The manual only has measurement guide lines, when it comes to wiring it says "The oven should only fitted by an approved electrician."

I found that the earth is connected to a metal plate which has a flat screw with an upside down christmas tree motif, which I believe to be the earth.

Second question. I have a HO5 RR-F cable, the manual says I should use HO5 V V-F, do I need to upgrade??

That cable meets the requirement with regards to the amount of current it can handle, it is the right thickness and in technical terms is suitable, BUT: How old is it? The 'R's indicate that rubber insulation is used, and therefore there is a good chance your wiring may be ancient and may be unsafe.

This may help with knowing what the codes mean.

Thankyou very much for that info, you learn something new each day. :p
I will track down a new cable, my new oven is Pyrolytic so with the increased temperatures I will require more heat resistance. Previous oven and wiring was 6 years old, fitted by Housing company when house was built.
