Two years ago I laid some laminate flooring in a room about 6 feet by 4 feet. I didn't put those cork strips round the outside. Nothing bad happened.

This room was removed but I saved the laminate flooring - and now I am going to use it elsewhere, on an even smaller room.

Should I use those cork strips? Why? Why not?

the cork strips are to finish the edge off the floor and leave it looking neat leaving room for expansion as the cork compresses with little effort

Bigall is totally correct, however the modern trend seems to be to just leave a 10mm gap all the way round and cover with beading.

That's right Woody, also because cork strip can take some of the expansion, but not all. Plus when there is a little expansion compressing the cork you could get creaky sounds.
