Could anybody identify this?

The following photos show some form of item which came with a load of junk given to me 25+ years ago.

It looks as though it quite possibly comes from an electrical appliance (although I could well be wrong).

*Note to Moderators, I have posted this thread in the appliances section due to what I mentioned above, but please move to the appropriate section if necessary*

The item appears to be new/unused since it came with the polystyrene packaging also shown.

it has a huge number of connectors. Is there an electric timer in it? Dishwashers used to have timed controllers to open and shut valves, turn heater and pump on and off through the programmes.

I haven't noticed any form of timer in it, certainly no digital display.

they used to have a rotating knob. You set it to the start position of the programme you wanted, and it slowly clicked round, starting and stopping various actions, until it reached an end point. Progress was indicated on the rim of the knob.

Is that a knob spindle sticking out?

Could it be out of an old Hoover 65 twin tub?
