Could I get away with NOT lifting the Turf?

I'm planning to rip up my back garden and replace the grass with AstroTurf. My back garden runs on a slight slope and I'm planning on levelling this off slightly but will still have a slight slope.

My question is, could I just rotovate the grass as it is before laying a membrane then my Type 1 and sharp sand or should I lift the turf first before proceeding with the same steps?

The reason I ask is because if I lift the turf then its adding more space I will need to build up (to lessen the slope). Also what's the best/cheapest way of doing this, just additional soil? Or Type 1 (I'm guessing soil is cheaper).

Or is even turning it upside down an option? Assuming I use a turf lifter.

Thanks.
