Surely you have your own documents that would have been sent to you at the time of completion?

No they never sent us anything we also had a small part of a wall removed and replace the old rsj this was also overseen by BC they found the paperwork for that.

Do they have it on record that they oversaw the job? Have you formally applied for this in writing? Why do you need it anyway? 20 years is a long time!

The person who wants to buy our house has requested we get the certificate of completion to prove building regulations were followed correctly but now that we have contacted council we cant use indemnity insurence ive been told

I can remember everything about the build from start to finish i know it was built to 1991 building regs it was done in stages footings were dug we had to wait for Bc officer to check and the sewage pipe and manhole was checked then footing filled with concrete and brickwork and DPC was checked when complete BC officer
checked and signed it off weather he did the paperwork or it got lost who knows

If the house is still standing, ask the potential buyer if he has noticed this, and if he still wants this antique bit of paper then tell him to do one

Or pay £80 for a worthless indemnity policy, but which will make the buyer and Solicitor smile
