Hi All,

Background -
I'm going to create a countertop in my ensuite. the countertop is going to stretch the length of one wall (1.5m). I'll then sit a free standing handbasin on it. I'm going to create a front panel, under the counter top to conceal the basin pipes and toilet cistern.

Now to the issue I'm asking about

I'm not sure how to decorate the front panel of the 'false wall'. I know i dont want to tile it, as i want to the option to put in a cupboard. So i was thinking of using marine ply and then covering it with a plastic veneer, like formica, or maybe using a single sheet of white acrylic?

Help, any ideas what the best / cheapest option might be!? Any issues with either approach?

Seriously, I don't think you'd be too happy about the outcome here.....its the sort of job you do only the once usually.
Check out Multipanel for the kosher materials.

Cheers John

Had a quick look at their website and yes this is the ideal solution. However i'm going to use such a small amount of material that this wouldnt be cost effective really.

OK, then maybe a kitchen worktop offcut would do?
Formica never glues down particularly well onto any timber unless its used inside a vacuum bag!
MDF isn't the best choice in a bathroom situation either.
Hope your project goes well!

I don't understand how a Formica surface will not prevent you building a cup'd but tile would?

i wanted to go for a uniform look and 'hide' the cupboard, buy making it flush, with push hinges. So was thinking it might look a bit naf with tiles!

You could use high gloss kitchen door and make up top etc with high gloss kitchen decor panels.
This is example using ikea kitchen doors and decor panels for sink base.
