I've recently noticed a crack on the corner of my living room. I've only been in a few month and it's started to appear more I believe. It starts from one side of the wall, goes up to the ceiling I believe and down onto the wall beside it. The ceiling is wallpapered so it's hard to tell. There is also coving which looks like it's been repaired in the past. Hope these pictures help...

Anything to be concerned about? It's an old house and the crack doesnt seen to be too big imo.

Freddy86, good evening.

A couple of things.

1/. there are no indications at all of any "Recent" movement the old crack could have been there for several decades.

2/. On the cornice that is a very, very old "repair" which simply may not have been finished of correctly, that is completely smooth,

3/. As for the cracking showing through the heavily embossed ceiling paper, cracks to old original Lath and Plaster are very, very common, most common cause is an Escape of Water from above, including roof leaks and the like

i will take a stab at the property being 10 + - 1900??

Ken.

Thanks for the reply Ken.

Yes you're absolutely correct with your age estimate.

Do you have any advice on what to do with it? Or is it just a case of keeping an eye on it.

Thanks again.
