Hello,

First post on here so thank you in advance.

I noticed a crack in the lintel above my front window a while ago and didn’t really think anything of it at the time. My Mum came round the other day and noticed it so I’m now worrying about what it could be. It doesn’t seem to have changed since I first noticed it (months ago).

Could anybody shed any light on what it could indicate? It is slightly discoloured on the side with the crack (pictures attached). Should I be contacting a builder about it? Some DIY things I’m good with, but this is beyond me.

Thank you.

Is it a lintel? It looks like render, and if so it's what's behind that matters.

What do the other houses in the street have - especially any with original windows?

I don’t know what it is! Mum called it a lintel so that’s what I thought it was .

All the houses look the same and non have original windows.

Would I call a builder for this? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Yes a builder should be able to diagnose it. But get at least three quotes - and opinions to check they all concur. Bear in mind that the builders would love to do the work, so is what they say going to be in your or their favour?
